Charles River is easily accessible by car, and is 5 minutes off of I-95. There is abundant parking on-campus, including accessible spots immediately surrounding the gymnasium.
Public Transportation
The closest MBTA station is Newton Centre on the Green Line D Branch. From there, you can board Bus 52 at Cypress St & Braeland Ave outbound towards Dedham Mall. Exit at Dedham St & Carlson Ave. From there it is a 10 minute walk to the clinic.
Charles River is within the radius of The Ride – Massachusett's paratransit service.
Many locals find The Ride to be unreliable at times, so we recommend utilizing the accessible Uber/Lyft system as a first choice.
Flying
The closest airport is Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). There are accessible shuttles from the airport directly into the city where you can transfer to the subway and train lines.
Food
We will be providing lunch each day of the clinic for all participants, volunteers, and PCAs/aides. If you have any dietary restrictions, please be sure to list them in the registration form.
Eligibility
Participants must be at least 7 years old
Participants must be residents of the United States of America
Participants must have a disability or chronic condition that affects mobility.
Due to the nature of the sport and for safety concerns, participants must be able to control a wheelchair using a joystick, remain seated in an upright position for extended periods of time, see clearly, and follow directions.
We are able to modify the equipment to suit various needs of athletes, including adding ventilator mounts, headrests, laterals, cushioning, and more!
If you have any questions about your eligibility to participate, please contact us.
Service Animal Policy
To ensure a safe, focused, and accessible environment for all participants, only service dogs are permitted at the USVHA Volt Hockey Training Clinic. Volt hockey is a fast-paced sport involving motorized chairs, and maintaining a controlled environment is essential for safety and accessibility.
Service dogs are welcome provided they are:
-
Trained service animals as defined by the ADA
-
Leashed, well-behaved, and under control at all times
-
Not disruptive to gameplay or instruction
The USVHA reserves the right to ask that a service animal be removed if it cannot follow these guidelines.
If you have questions or need to discuss an accommodation related to this policy, please contact us in advance of the clinic.
