In August 2025, we hosted our first-ever national training camp in Newton, Massachusetts—a four-day event that brought together 23 participants from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire for an unforgettable weekend of skill-building and community.

Day 1 – Kicking Things Off
The camp opened with energy and excitement as our four expert trainers from Norway’s elite BVH Lions—Martin, Anders, Andreas, and Maren—dived straight into defensive drills and capped the day with spirited scrimmages. Between makeshift work-from-home setups, visiting dogs, and an evening thunderstorm that ended with a stunning sunset, the first day perfectly set the tone for the weekend.
Day 2 – Strategy and a Fenway Night
Friday started with high-intensity “battleship” drills before our Official Sponsor, ITF Therapeutics, joined the players for a friendly scrimmage. Mid-court transitions, tactical sessions, and even a sneaky yellow card or two kept the energy high. That evening, a group of athletes and trainers headed to Fenway Park, where the Boston Red Sox clinched a bottom-of-the-ninth win—an all-American introduction for our Norwegian guests.
Day 3 – Stamina and Skill
Saturday pushed everyone’s limits with offensive drills, backward-driving practice, precision shooting, and full scrimmages to put new skills into action. Players preparing for the upcoming Volt Hockey World Cup in Sweden powered through extra tournament-focused sessions, showing remarkable determination and teamwork.
Day 4 – A Grand Finale
The camp concluded with an in-house tournament and a surprise visit from NBC10 Boston, who captured the excitement and helped spread the word about volt hockey to a wider audience. The buzz and cheers in the gym made for the perfect send-off to four unforgettable days.
Growing the Volt Hockey Community
Beyond drills and scrimmages, the camp created lasting bonds and sparked exciting momentum: new interest is already building to launch volt hockey teams in both New York City and Albany, New York. Many participants left with happy tears, new friendships, and a deeper sense of what volt hockey can mean for athletes with disabilities across the United States.
A huge thank-you goes out to our Norwegian trainers Martin, Anders, Andreas, and Maren for setting the gold standard in sportsmanship and empathy (and for tolerating all our mischief!), to Space2Thrive and the Eastern Massachusetts Volt Hockey Club for equipment and venue support, to the volunteers and caregivers whose enthusiasm kept everything running smoothly, and to our generous sponsors who made the camp possible.
Looking Ahead
Above all, we celebrate our players, whose passion and hard work continue to grow volt hockey nationwide. The success of this first USA Volt Hockey Training Camp proves that our community is ready to expand—and we can confidently say: camp will be back next year!
