On March 1, 2025, the United States Volt Hockey Association teamed up with EmpowerSCI, the Boston Self Help Center, and Northeast Passage for a high-energy Wheelchair Team Sports Showcase—and we’re still buzzing from the excitement!
A Day of Adaptive Action
The event offered attendees the chance to experience three thrilling wheelchair sports firsthand: volt hockey, power soccer, and wheelchair rugby. The Boston Whiplash opened the day with a spirited volt hockey scrimmage, demonstrating the speed and strategy that make the sport so unique. Afterward, participants of all ages and abilities strapped in to test their skills—and we may have spotted a few future volt hockey players in the making!
Building Community and Awareness
By bringing these sports together under one roof, the showcase highlighted the diverse opportunities available to athletes with disabilities and helped spread the word about adaptive recreation in the Greater Boston area. Families, fans, and curious newcomers left with smiles and a deeper appreciation for the power of inclusive athletics.
Gratitude to Our Partners
A huge thank-you to EmpowerSCI, the Boston Self Help Center, and Northeast Passage for making this event possible. Your commitment to accessibility and teamwork created a day full of connection, fun, and new friendships.
Events like this remind us why we work to grow volt hockey: it’s not just about competition—it’s about community, empowerment, and opening doors for everyone to play.
