2026 Volt Hockey Training Clinic

What an incredible four days of volt hockey! From August 13–16, 2026, the United States Volt Hockey Association hosted its second annual training clinic at the UMass Amherst Charles River Campus in Newton, Massachusetts. We welcomed 29 athletes from eight states, a 26% increase from our inaugural clinic, making this our biggest training clinic yet!

Athletes ranging in age from 7 to 58 spent four action-packed days building their skills through drills, instruction, and plenty of scrimmages before putting everything into action during a tournament-style final day. Experienced players were challenged to take their game to the next level, while brand-new athletes had the opportunity to learn the sport from the beginning. We also modified chairs and equipment around individual needs, helping athletes with a wide range of physical disabilities participate fully and independently.

This year’s athletes trained with 10 members of Norway’s BVH Lions, one of the best volt hockey teams in the world. With more trainers joining us than last year, we were able to give new players additional attention while continuing to challenge our experienced athletes. The delegation brought decades of playing, coaching, and officiating knowledge to the court, including guidance from one of the world’s most highly regarded volt hockey referees.

The clinic was about much more than training. Athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers shared daily lunches, gathered for an outdoor barbecue, and visited View Boston to take in the city skyline and sunset. Our Official Sponsor, ITF Therapeutics, also brought an amazing crew of volunteers and spectators who filled the gym with energy and even joined our athletes for friendly scrimmages!

Most exciting of all, the impact is already reaching beyond Newton. Every athlete who completed our post-clinic survey said they would recommend the clinic to others and had maintained or increased their interest in volt hockey. Participants returned home excited to share the sport, contributing to growing interest in new teams in New Mexico, Illinois, and New York.
