USVHA Partners with UNE and Maine Adaptive for Volt Hockey Demo

The USVHA recently headed north to Portland, Maine for a volt hockey demonstration at the University of New England, in partnership with Maine Adaptive!
USVHA representatives and athletes from the Boston Whiplash spent the day introducing the sport to people with disabilities, UNE physical therapy and occupational therapy students and faculty, and members of the Maine Adaptive community. And, of course, plenty of people got the chance to hop into a chair and try volt hockey for themselves.
The timing was especially fitting, with the event taking place around the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was a great opportunity to celebrate accessibility, adaptive sports, and more ways for people with disabilities to get involved in recreation and competition.
This event had also been more than a year in the making. A special thank you to Shae Woznicki, who helped keep the idea moving and ultimately brought everyone together for the day.
We’re grateful to UNE and Maine Adaptive for welcoming us to Portland and for giving us another opportunity to introduce volt hockey to a new community.
And who knows, maybe the Pine Tree State will be home to a volt hockey team of its own before too long!
