One Rare Experience at Boston University

The United States Volt Hockey Association recently joined One Rare at Boston University for the One Rare Experience, bringing along some familiar faces from the Boston Whiplash to introduce participants to volt hockey!
The One Rare Experience is a program designed for young adults ages 18–35 living with rare diseases, bringing participants together through education, mentoring, recreation, and peer support. We were excited to be part of the day and give attendees the chance to get into volt hockey chairs, learn about the sport, and experience it firsthand.
The collaboration was especially meaningful because One Rare has a special connection to the volt hockey community. The organization was founded by Austin Leclaire, a former Boston Whiplash athlete who passed away several years ago. Today, Austin’s family continues to carry his work and vision forward through One Rare, creating opportunities for young adults with rare diseases to connect, learn, and build community.
We’re proud to collaborate with One Rare and to help introduce even more people to adaptive sports through volt hockey.
A big thank you to Coach Laura and Boston Whiplash athletes Desi, Stella, and Austin’s brother, Max, for leading the volt hockey session, sharing the sport with participants, and getting everyone in some chairs!
